With tributes ranging in scope from President Barack Obama to DJ Khaled, people all around the world are still in shock that music icon, Prince, past away today at 57-years-old.

In the first of what will probably be dozens of cover stories on the legend, The New Yorker unveiled their cover for their upcoming May 2 issue with a somber illustration by Bob Staake which references both the film and studio album, Purple Rain, by the artist who is gone way too soon.
