Hong Kong-based design firm Ida & Billy have installed a sustainably designed washroom in TaiKoo Hui, a multi-use complex in Guangzhou, China. The premise was simple: to tie everything back to nature. All elements of the space were considered – from urinals and cubicles to washbasins and decor.
White-washed walls are engineered with reinforced gypsum panels, chosen for their durability and use of recycled materials. Urinals are waterless to save on water and basins integrate hand dryers to reduce waste. Indoor plants at ceiling level help to purify the air by absorbing carbon dioxide, grown using grey matter collected from the basins.
The ambience is clean and inviting, but most of all, helps to scale down negative impacts on the environment.
