Joe Budden has dropped a new diss track titled “Making a Murderer Pt. 1,” in which he comes at Drake hard, rapping “My words ain’t ghostwritten / I ain’t Drake.”
Budden previewed the track on Periscope earlier this week, captioning the live video with “Budden v Drake Round 1” and promising to release it on Thursday night. It’s expected to be appear on his Rage & the Machine project in collaboration with araabMUZIK.
Speaking with Pitchfork, Budden says that he doesn’t want to start beef with the track, instead he wants to reignite what he calls an “uninspired Drizzy.” “I come from a hip-hop where if you didn’t have something to say, then, n****a, what the f**k were you rapping for,” he said. “I’m tired of rappers addressing things in every other manner in passion but rap.”
The fight has been brewing for a while. “Making a Murderer Pt. 1” follows Drake’s “4PM in Calabasas,” which featured several lyrics that Budden took to be insulting and aimed at him. He had also previously been critical of Drake’s latest album VIEWS, hence the line in this new track which goes, “Show the world you shouldn’t poke a man with nothin’ to lose / All of this just because I wasn’t in love with his VIEWS.”
We know Drake tends to take pop shots like this pretty well, let’s see if he can keep his cool this time around. Listen to the track below.
