This past weekend in Paris, Los Angeles-based football fanatics Kicks to the Pitch invited 23 select individuals from around the world to discuss all things related to The Beautiful Game. Discussing how football relates to sneakers, art, hip-hop and technology, famed street artists Kevin Lyon and STASH came together to create an exclusive typeface for the evening's festivities, which included a custom Paris Saint-Germain jersey for each attendee.
In addition, the lucky 23 were invited to La Galerie du Ballon, a pop-up gallery located in the heart of Le Marais, earlier in the day to create their own football kits featuring 32 unique crests. Featuring a customization lab by Avery Dennison in the basement, many of the designs were created by local art heroes like Jean André, while others were provided by global institutions like Heineken.
During its run from June 6 to July 11, the pop-up gallery also played host to an ongoing exhibition featuring exclusive pieces by world-renowned artists and designers such as Hender Scheme, Steph Morris and Kayleigh Walmsley, all of whom incorporated the theme of football into their work.
Among the many unique products temporarily up for sale was a pair of People Footwear x Le Ballon FC sneakers, featuring a woven upper made with Avery Dennison's Component Weave Technology. The design was based on the signature monochrome stripes of Le Ballon, while the innersole and heels sports the French flag's likeness. The result is an ultra-lightweight lace-up with a decidedly contemporary aesthetic, creating a subtle statement and a unique piece of memorabilia. Limited to just 50 pairs in store, the remaining pairs will be available from Le Ballon's website in the coming days.
