For our latest installment of Meet the Muse, we had the privilege of getting together with LA-based Australian model Madison Borbely.

We asked Madison a handful of questions in order to get to know her a little more. See what she had to say below and check out our previous installment with Nova Orchid.

What was your first big gig?

Opening the first show (Josh Goot) of Australian fashion week 2010 when I was 15.

How has your style changed over the years?

My style has changed SO MUCH. Many years in the fashion industry have taught me to dress well and my focus now is on chic, fun pairings that are unique to me and no one else. I love being able to stand out for my fashion whereas when I first started in the industry it was all about following trends and really having no idea what looked good on me. Now I’m confident to wear whatever I feel like and that confidence definitely makes an outfit at the end of the day.

Describe your current style.

I usually am wearing a mix of super unique vintage pieces (currents faves are a black bedazzled utility suit and a dark green high-necked velvet crop) mixed with streetwear (generally supreme T-shirts or sweaters) and high-end pieces like a YSL leather jacket or sunset palm printed shoulder bag. I’m usually always wearing boots or sneakers.

What is the thing that gets you out of bed each morning?

My iPhone alarm and knowing I have to be at a shoot. Otherwise I would stay in bed all day.

Tell us about your day to day.

It’s depends on who I’m shooting for. But usually I wake up, head to my job location, sit in hair and make up for an hour or two and shoot all day. If I’m working out of town I’ll head back to my hotel, workout, try to find something interesting, yummy and relatively healthy to have for dinner. Right now I’m using the app Duolingo to learn Spanish so I’ve been spending about 20 mins on that every night. If I’m at home my boyfriend and I will go out to dinner, maybe have some drinks at a cool bar and then go home and chill out with our dog Lou.

If you weren’t doing what you are now, where would you work?

Some sort of medical profession, maybe a surgeon!

Dream collaboration?

I’d love to do an Australian collab with the amazing creatives that are there, and creative directed by Mark Vasallo because I love his vision. Something similar to what Miranda Kerr did for Russh a couple of years ago. But I’d want to do it on an even bigger, cooler scale; maybe a video component rather than just straight editorial.

If you weren’t in your current city, where would you live?

Hawaii because it’s my favorite place in the world. Perfect weather, beaches and the lifestyle is the most chill.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t care what other people think because it doesn’t matter. Only you are responsible for your happiness.

What’s your motto?

If you wanna do it, do it.

How do you relax?

Cuddles with my baby fox Lou. (She’s not actually a fox she’s an Alaskan Klee Kai but she could very well have a fox mum and a wolf dad).

What in life are you most grateful for?

Everything that’s gotten me to where I am today! The good and the bad.

What is something you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time, but haven’t yet?

Traveling to more countries and eating all their food! My favorite things to do is travel and live like a local and experience the culture and cuisine first-hand, rather than the tourist experience that most people do when they travel.

What album do you currently have on repeat?

Father John Misty’s I Love You, Honeybear.

What is your most treasured item of clothing?

An oversized white vintage DKNY blazer that was my mum’s. Also my YSL leather jacket that was an Xmas gift from my boyfriend a couple of years ago.

What could you eat every day and not get tired of?

Every kind of fruit but also french fries if they weren’t so bad for you.

Where do you want to be in the next five years?

In five years I want to own at least one property and start my dream owning homes all over the world.

Not NYC, not LA.
