Where the runway meets the street

All fashion evolves over time, but women’s swimwear in particular has had an incredibly extreme evolution. This is of course due to the fact that a century ago, women were barely allowed to expose anything past their elbows in a public setting. A new video from YouTube fashion channel MODE takes us through a full 100 years in this evolutionary process, and all brought to vivid life through the magic of body paint.

Starting off in 1916 (the aforementioned time where a woman could barely show more than her elbows), the video then touches on each decade to check in on the fabulous swimsuits a la mode. Innovations like the stark introduction of the belly in the 1930s to the extreme transition between the ‘50s and ‘60s are real food for thought, and revisiting classics like the iconic Baywatch red swimsuit of the ‘90s makes for a nice bit of nostalgia.
