The first trailer for Woody Allen’s new Amazon series Crisis in Six Scenes was released over the weekend and it confirms at least one thing – Woody Allen is incapable of looking like James Dean.

In his nasal voice and his thick-rimmed glasses, we see Allen consulting his barber with his usual endearing anxiety, completely unaware of his own ridiculousness. “I tore a picture out of a magazine, and I thought, if you could do this, shape it like that,” he says, playing a struggling author. “That’s James Dean,” the barber, played by Max Casella, replies, “I can work on your hair for 10 years and you’re never going to look like James Dean.”

A romantic comedy that was shot last summer in New York and Los Angeles, Crisis in Six Scenes takes place in the 1960s during turbulent times in the United States, when a middle class suburban family is visited by a guest who “turns their household completely upside down.” It’s a look at the way people largely went about their lives ignoring the vast social change happening around them for as long as possible.

The six half-hour episodes will star Allen, Miley Cyrus and Elaine May, and have brought out a little self-conscious anxiety in the seasoned director. “It was a catastrophic mistake. I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m floundering. I expect this to be a cosmic embarrassment,” Allen told The L.A. Times.

Watch the trailer above, and look out for the show hitting a TV near you on September 30.
