Creating ranked lists of the “best of” anything is a task of Herculean proportions. No matter what you’re ranking, it is next to impossible to come up with something that will satisfy all parties. That said, in stark opposition to this hard truth is the fact that “Hey Ya!” will appear on lists of the best songs of the 2000s for time immemorial. Which must be why John Legend chose to honor it the latest episode of Lip Sync Battle with the best André 3000 impression he could muster.

But not only did Legend mouth along to the infectiously happy track, he managed to find Stevie Wonder of all people to join him in fully recreating the track’s iconic music video. Which means, yes, Legend was wearing the suspenders and green outfit worthy of any citizen of the Emerald City of Oz. Wonder played along on keyboard beside him, artfully mouthing along to the backup voices of the chorus.

Technically if John Legend was going to faithfully recreate the video, he would have found a way to clone himself and create an entire backing band out of them, but we won’t fault him for that missing detail. Though a room full of John Legends is enticing to say the least.

Stay tuned for more lip sync goodness. Lip Sync Battle airs on Spike TV.
