A few weeks back, fashion industry resource WWD speculated that Gosha Rubchinskiy was set to launch a new fragrance, and, guess what? Gosha’s parent company, COMME des GARCONS, has just officially unveiled the scent. Set to launch on October 8 and priced at $88 (€76 in Europe), the fragrance launch will be accompanied by a special photo book featuring snaps taken by Rubchinskiy himself.
“Brands like Supreme and Gosha replaced musicians,” Rubchinskiy told Business of Fashion. “Before, teenagers had a favourite band and they waited to be the first to get new singles. Now, you do not need to go to stores to buy records…They buy t-shirts not as clothes, but as a fan piece or something collectable.”
Continuing the music analogy, Rubchinskiy described his fragrance as his “new single,” and explained that it was inspired by the streets of Moscow (where else?), and evokes “young people hanging together, skating together — concrete and skateboards.”
The clear glass bottle has a cap made of wood, a nod to a skate deck. The bright red packaging was inspired by Red Moscow, a Soviet-era perfume.
The fragrance drops October 8 at Dover Street Market London, Comme des Garçons Trading Museum and Comme des Garçons Parfums shops in Paris. It’ll then hit DSM NY and DSM Ginza (in Tokyo) in November, and in January it will be distributed to a yet-t0-be-announced network of retailers.
While you wait, here’s a beginner’s guide to perfume and fragrances.
