Netflix has released the trailer for Barry, a new biopic about Barack Obama which follows the future president throughout his college years.

Directed by Vikram Gandhi (Kumaré) and starring newcomer Devon Terrell, the movie follows a young, cigarette smoking Barack Obama as he moves to New York City to attend Columbia University in 1981. It was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September, and apparently took critics by surprise, who labelled it not just a “Hallmark Original Movie or cash-grab,” but a “layered, artful film.”

We’re set to see “Barry” make his way through a crime-ridden and racially charged New York City, while striking up a relationship with a white woman (Anya Taylor-Joy) and struggling to reconcile his fraught non-relationship with his estranged father.

The movie will be available on Netflix on December 16, when, no doubt, we’ll already be pining for the days back when Obama was president. Check out the trailer above.

Here’s everything coming to and leaving Netflix in November.
