Where the runway meets the street

Demna Gvasalia’s luxe-Normcore wave at Balenciaga continues into the Resort 2017 season (which is sort of like halfway in between SS17 and FW17). Resort collections are traditionally filled with warm weather attire for ultra-rich fashion customers to wear on exotic winter locations, but have basically just become a money maker for brands, as the lines spend a longer time in stores than spring/summer and fall/winter (more time in stores = more time to sell at full price before sale season hits = more $$$).

For Resort 2017, Demna is all about dad caps and beach wear. Those caps came just in black, with the name of the legendary couture house boldly embroidered on the crown. No doubt they’ll be one of the season’s “it” accessories (and also the easiest thing to bootleg ever, just saying).

Said beach wear comes in all sorts of scissored, acrobatic cuts — there’s uneven hems, exploded silhouettes and even some odd long- and short-sleeves. The array of North African-style striped caftans were accompanied by a few leather jackets, mega-baggy trousers, and a smattering of tailoring — with those extra-hard shoulders that have now become the Vetements founder’s calling card.

The “Bazar” bags, inspired by those run-of-the-mill laundry bags you’ll find all over the globe, appear in new colorways too, naturally.
