After several weeks of mysterious Spotify teasing and various rumors flying around the internet, The xx have announced what we’ve all been waiting for. Their third album is on its way and will be arriving mid-January. And they were also good enough to share a new single titled “On Hold,” which you can listen to above.
The new album is titled I See You, and is the first album proper from the moody British trio since the 2012 effort Coexist. But all three members of the band united for frontman Jamie xx’s solo album In Colour, which was released last year to rave reviews.
“On Hold,” the new single, is a classic example of the band’s atmospheric, melancholic indie rock. Curiously, it features a sample that is far outside their genre: a snippet from Hall & Oates’ ’80s classic single “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do).” Only time will tell what else will appear on the full album, so stay tuned.
Listen to The xx’s new track “On Hold” above. Look out for I See You to drop January 13.
