The Roland TR-808 drum machine is one of the most influential and ubiquitous musical instruments ever, period. But despite its importance, many are still unfamiliar with just how widespread its influence is in multiple genres. For those still unfamiliar, look no further than 808, a new documentary telling the instrument’s story, and the first official trailer that has just been released.

Directed by Alex Dunn, the documentary has been making waves around the independent film circuit this year, but is receiving an official release through Apple Music on December 9. And given the machine’s massive influence, it makes sense that the film features interviews with some of the music world’s biggest and best. The documentary contains appearances from Pharrell to the Beastie Boys, Questlove to New Order, and master-producer Rick Rubin.

Watch the trailer above, and stay tuned to Apple on December 9 to catch the full feature.

In other music news, Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt reunited at their Camp Flog Gnaw festival. Watch it right here.
