G-Star RAW Research is the first collection to be created out of the G-Star RAW innovation lab, designed and led by the brand’s newly-appointed Executive Creative Director Aitor Throup. The innovation lab is focused on creative experimentation and thinking outside of the box, and RAW Research is proof that the brand’s cutting-edge designs are setting new denim standards.

The capsule collection features exclusive concept pieces which serve as prototypes for the brand’s main collection — it’s an opportunity to develop curiosity, explore ideas and test new concepts. Throup previously acted as a creative consultant to G-Star and his influence here is unmissable; however his signature style blends perfectly with G-Star’s own vision. The first season uses the same Italian selvedge denim throughout to explore the polar opposite states in a denim garment’s life. Rigid loom-state raw denim is used to construct one-half of the collection, and denim bleached to almost complete white the other half.

The Strett Jacket and Strett Parka are stand out reinterpretations of classic outerwear pieces. Both feature integrated, detachable backpacks and stealthy hoods suited to the city streets of a dystopian future. The Rackam Bomber is equally futuristic with a bold silhouette and a large back pocket containing detachable straps allowing the jacket to be stored and carried.

G-Star is renowned for its jeans, and this collection features four styles. The 5620 Motion 3D Tapered is a hybrid of traditional workwear jeans and motorcycle trousers with reinforced knees, integrated rib inserts and stretch fabric panels in key areas. The Staq 3D Tapered is another hybrid combining traditional jeans and chinos; an internal taping system creates its 3D structure and stacked leg.

G-Star RAW Research is a collection designed for tomorrow, optimized both aesthetically and functionally. Brands regularly throw the term “technical” around, but G-Star has created a collection that suitably incorporates technical features with exceptionally ergonomic results. The approach and attention to detail on everything from seams to pockets is almost clinical.

The collection is available early December exclusively at selected stores. More information is available via the link below.
