Meet Lydia Kirwood, the latest star of our Meet the Muse segment. Here Kirwood wears pieces from the likes of Storeroom Vintage, Levi’s, Zara, Need Supply Co. and Nike.

We asked Lydia a handful of questions in order to get to know her a little more. See what she had to say below and check out a previous installment with Emma Moore.

Who or what are you currently inspired by?

It’s spring here in Australia, so I find the changing landscape, the flowers, all the green – even what people have going in their gardens – a pretty endless source of inspo.

What was the thing that first got you interested in fashion?

When I was little, me and my sister would get my mum to make our clothes for us, that was really fun. Lots of crushed velvet skirts, matching tie dye, leopard prints. I loved having purple hair to “match.” My sister just graduated from her fashion course at RMIT with great marks!

How has your style changed over the years?

I still think of fashion as “for fun,” as in I don’t take it too seriously. My favorite pieces are from op shops/vintage stores, I pretty much wear jeans and an old T-shirt everyday.

Describe your current style.

Very casual. I’m getting a lot of inspiration from the really “worn in” look. You see it on guys in their 50s, tradies, kids in their favorite shoes. I think I would like to look like I’m always prepared to go on a hike or something.

If you weren’t doing what you are now, where would you work?

I’d like to work with plants and animals, a bit of building. I’d like to work with my hands. Maybe write about it, I’ve always liked writing.

If you weren’t in your current city, where would you live? (also why?)

Probably New Zealand. It’s crazy beautiful and no hassle to move to from Australia.

Who is the film character you’re most like?

My parents named me after Winona Ryder’s character in Beetle Juice. I really like that movie so I’ll go with it.

How do you relax?

A brisk walk somewhere nice to burn off any nervous energy, gardening, kirtan, meditation. I like to write down everything that I need to get done or anything that’s stressing me out.

What album do you currently have on repeat?

ABBA – ABBA Gold. Timeless, inspiring, perfect.

What is your most treasured item of clothing? (also why?)

Apart from the patch jacket I wear every damn day, my little baggu circle purse is very special, it was a Christmas present from my boyfriend. I think things have a nice sentimental value when they are a gift.

What is your fondest memory?

A camping trip with my family, I had this lovely shade of violet in my hair and all the coconut trees I could climb.

What skill do you possess that people wouldn’t expect from you?

I do most of my own tattoos, it’s not hard just takes some patience.

What could you eat every day and not get tired of?

I live on apple cider vinegar, tofu, hummus, oranges and don’t see myself ever getting sick of it.

Where do you want to be in the next five years?

Somewhere beautiful!
