Tune in and turn up

An unreleased J Dilla beat, titled “Ghetto Wishing,” has been released alongside grainy, VHS visuals of the late, great producer. Coinciding with the release of new documentary, The Unseen: A Detroit Beat Tape, the footage sees Dilla DJ’ing at some OG shows back in the 90’s. Put together by director Gus Sutherland and archivist Justin Kovar, The Unseen explores the soul and groundbreaking roots of Detroit Hip-Hop Production.

Several of the Windy City’s iconic hip-hop producers feature alongside the late pioneer – such as House Shoes, Wajeed and Quelle Chris – to highlight Detroit’s influential hip-hop soundscape.
