The Important Reason Why White Bandanas Are Going to Be All the Rage This Season

As womenswear season creeps over the horizon, Business of Fashion has unveiled its #TIEDTOGETHER campaign, which it hopes will make a “clear statement in support of solidarity, human unity, and inclusiveness.”

The movement entails wearing white bandanas as a visual statement. BoF is urging those involved in fashion week to don the accessory as “a sign to the world that you believe in the common bonds of humankind — regardless of race, sexuality, gender or religion.”

The initiative was rolled out for the first time at Tommy Hilfiger’s Los Angeles fashion show yesterday. BoF hopes that everybody from journalists to designers to celebrity guests will all take part. To get involved, BoF asks that:

  • Tie a white bandana around your wrist, neck, head or handbag
  • Upload an image of your bandana to social media
  • Tag someone to show you are #TiedTogether, as friends, family, neighbors and humans
  • Register your support on the #tiedtogether website
  • For designers: incorporate white bandanas in your fashion shows or wear a white bandana in your final bow
  • For models: wear white bandanas to castings and between shows
  • For street style photographers: shoot people wearing white bandanas
  • For editors: include images of white bandanas in your round-ups and fashion week coverage

So far, the fashion world has been disappointingly silent in speaking out against President Trump’s executive order that barred nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country. To register your support and to find further information, head on over to the #tiedtogether website here.

Elsewhere in the fashion world, Norse Projects just dropped its SS17 womenswear line.
