The latest chapter in our Meet the Muse series spotlights 19-year-old Parisian student Jennifer Abeyratne shot by photographer Mathieu Vilasco. For this installment, the French beauty mixes select pieces from brands like Fred Perry, adidas x Alexander Wang, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Supreme, Champion and Carhartt.
We asked Jennifer a few questions in order to get to know her a little better. See what she had to say below and check out the previous Meet the Muse installment with Selina Boege.
What was your first big gig?
Cover girl for Paulette magazine when I was 18.
Who or what are you currently inspired by?
A lot by my friends and my entourage. I’m surrounded by such creative minds and spirits, and I live in a city where creativity is key.
Tell us about your day to day.
Wake up early, sleep late, do as many things as possible in one day.
If you weren’t doing what you are now, where would you work?
A humanitarian cause; I hope to be able to combine these two.
If you weren’t in your current city, where would you live?
Paris is too calm sometimes, I wish I could move to London ASAP or why not another big fashion city like New York? There’s much more opportunities there!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
From my father: Always do different things, don’t be afraid to fail. Failures brings some lessons and leads to success sooner or later. Diversify your activities, don’t be afraid of discovering new things. Try everything you can, if you don’t, you won’t know what makes you happy the most.
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?
Teleporting would be sweet.
What’s your motto?
It’s better to live with remorse than regrets.
How do you relax?
Reading a good book in a hot bath with Otis Redding, Nat King Cole or Miles Davis playing in the background. Or the opposite, a workout session while listening to Booba, Niska or some trap music.
What is your most treasured item of clothing?
My J.W.Anderson jacket that I got during Black Friday sales – best acquisition ever!
What is your fondest memory?
South America, last summer with my two sidekicks, it was quite an adventure, from the Amazon jungle to the desert of Ica through the mountains and lakes. Daily life was rough but we saw the best landscapes I’ve ever seen. One night we crossed 10km by ourselves on dark railways with our heavy backpacks to reach some city that was inaccessible.
What skill do you possess that people wouldn’t expect from you?
Talking and singing with water in my mouth .
