They say that in life good things come to those who wait. But sometimes, that is blissfully not the case. Dirty Projectors, who have been teasing their drastically different new album for months now, decided to say ‘f*ck it’ and have blessed us with the new record several days ahead of schedule without warning. Stream it below via Spotify.

Where the previous Dirty Projectors albums featured frontman Dave Longstreth and a revolving line-up that included his girlfriend Amber Coffman, the new album sees Longstreth going solo. Not only is it a one-man band, but this record gives explicit details on the cataclysmic break-up between Longstreth and Coffman. But instead of a pity-party, he has created a collection of expertly-produced, futuristic R&B that draws on the likes of Timbaland and Missy Elliott in its sonic palette. It is, undoubtedly, the first masterpiece of the year.
