This past weekend, Paris’s last remaining adult cinema played host to an army of hardcore Margiela fans, all vying for the chance to score a rare piece from the house’s archive. The pop-up emporium (or shoppable retrospective) of Margiela porn (pieces span from 1989 to 2009) was launched by Byronesque, an editorial and online vintage shopping app.
Hosted at Le Beverley Cinema, those infatuated with Martin Margiela’s mysterious legacy were able to get a tactile introduction to some of the designer’s most coveted and rarest pieces. Everything, from a vest constructed of leather gloves to a collar crafted from wigs, was on sale. Though Maison Margiela lives on, under the tutelage of John Galliano, the industry remains no less obsessed with the house’s de facto founder, who formally stepped away from his namesake brand in 2009 and today remains a total mystery to most.
