Location: Paris, France
Season: Fall/Winter 2017
Key Looks: Black leather harnesses casually worn over crisp, tailored looks, and the delicious rework of a German police jacket is standout.
Editor’s Notes: The subtle S&M codes running through ALYX’s latest collection pays tribute to Berlin’s underground fetish scene, with an array of silver rings strapped on to boots, worn as chokers and as belts. The fetish-inspired looks are as equally street style-ready for fashion week as they are for some “deeds in the dark” at 4 a.m.
Elsewhere, tailoring is softer than previous seasons (following the brand’s aggressive use of motocross materials for SS17), and everything looks like an elegant update to ALYX’s signature aggressive aesthetic.
ALYX also dropped its latest fashion film, as part of an ongoing collaboration with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio. For their Fall/Winter 2016 fashion film, ALYX creative director Matthew Williams and Nick Knight explore the chaos inherent in nature.
The short film captures model Stella Lucia in a very disorienting, natural environment. Nick Knight lends the film some dizzy, high-octane visual treatment and new Young Turks producer NOLIFE soundtracks it all with a romantic sweep of hypotonic beats. The interplay of NOLIFE’s twitch and vibrate music, Nick Knight’s acidic visuals and Matthew Williams’s urbane designs, all set against a rural backdrop, creates a dynamic short of intriguing contrasts.
