If you think returning to work after the Easter holidays is tough, then perhaps this short film about social media moderation will put things in perspective.

Titled The Moderators and directed by Ciaran Cassidy and Adrien Chen, the piece goes behind the scenes with workers at an Indian firm tasked with keeping the web safe. Or, to put it more bluntly, the people who pore over gore, violence, and death on a daily basis to ensure your Facebook feed doesn't fall into a state of squalor.

As you'd probably expect, depression and fatigue are commonplace in such an environment, with workers regularly admitted to counseling for trauma. Each employee is required to meet a quota of filtering 2,000 photos per hour.

Watch the short above, and exercise caution when viewing — some of the photos, although obscured, can be distressing.

In other news, this infographic shows how much time the average person spends on social media.
