While many of us were stuffing our faces with Easter candy on Monday, Philadelphia’s Shamir dropped a surprise album. Hope is the countertenor singer-songwriter’s sophomore full length which he self-released and made available to download for free on his SoundCloud.

In a statement accompanying the album on SoundCloud, Shamir explains, “My music only feels exciting for me if it’s in the moment, and that’s what this album is. I made this album this past weekend stuck in my room with just a 4 track feeling hopeless about my love for music. I’m not gonna lie, this album is hard to listen to, but it was even harder for me to share.” Guitar-driven Hope is his first major release since his debut album Ratchet from 2015 and combines Shamir’s love for pop music, outsider music, and low-fi sounds.
