Tune in and turn up

We have come to expect a certain amount of bizarro-weirdness from Ty Segall, indie’s reigning garage-rock god and all-around oddity. But his new video “Break a Guitar” is pretty absurd even by his high standards. It also happens to co-star Jack Black, SNL and Portlandia alum Fred Armisen and living rock god Henry Rollins. Watch it above.

Directed by Matt Yoka, the visual finds Segall along with his strange group of new friends swirling through a psychedelic vortex while embodying the song title “Break a Guitar” as literally as possible. Fred Armisen is also garbed as a karate student, which is among the least puzzling aspects of the video. Be sure to stick around for the end, but warning, it is not for the easily-queasy or faint of heart.

“Break a Guitar” appeared on Segall’s self-titled album released earlier in the year. Watch him play a set of new material for Seattle radio station KEXP below.
