Birkenstock’s discernible designs have grown so readily recognizable that the German brand's name could easily be used in place of the term sandal. That’s a feat for any brand, particularly one specializing in a footwear style thousands of years old.

Birkenstock combines its familiar outsole, footbed, strap, and buckle to create an aesthetic that’s unique and distinct. But it's about more than just looks, each part is there for a reason. The footbed elevates and protects the toes, the toe bar promotes a natural foot roll, and arches shift pressure and support the entire foot.

"Each contour in a Birkenstock footbed is precisely placed to stretch, flex and move naturally,” Birkenstock explains. "Your feet benefit from free movement, constant exercise and improved circulation, resulting in long lasting comfort and better health.” This complex construction and level of care for our feet is missing in many brand’s footwear designs.

The footwear label represents old and new by taking an ancient shoe concept and continuously improving upon it. Our new Birkenstock shoot highlights the brand’s diverse offering and reimagines the various ways it can be worn. Among those featured are the classic Milano, Arizona and Papillio designs, and the less familiar Boston, Ramses, Kairo and Pasadena silhouettes. Pasadena, a modern take on a timeless design, offers an alternative to Birkenstock's classic sandals. Similarly, the Berlin bag—inspired by a mid-century tool bag and updated for contemporary functionality—demonstrates the brand's diversity.

Check out the shoot above for some inspiration on how to style Birkenstocks and shop what you see via the link below.

Got your Birkenstocks? Now check out these six festivals you probably haven’t heard of but should definitely go to in 2017.
