After making its debut on the runways of New York Fashion Week Men’s last season, the John Elliott x NikeLab Vandal High will finally drop this week. The high-top kicks are a bit of a full-circle for the designer, who has previously collaborated with Nike on silhouettes like the LeBron Soldier X. A long time fan of Nike, he submitted sneaker designs as a child, which actually garnered a response from the company that encouraged him to keep creating.
“When I was eight years old, I constantly drew sneakers in class. My mom encouraged me to send those designs to Nike,” says John Elliott on his website. “It’s been a lifelong dream to collaborate with Nike. As a first project, the Vandal is a really authentic way for us to begin telling our story through the Swoosh lens.”
Elliott admits he first became enamored with the shoe in the early 2000s, particularly admiring the low-profile sole and its versatility. In his collaboration, the rand is removed but the shoe’s signature layered swoosh is kept intact, and a rolled seam is added for a hint of modernity.
Available in two monochromatic colorways—Sail and Anthracite—the shoe will first release on June 21 in-store at colette and NikeLab P75 in Paris, followed by a global release on June 22 at 11 a.m. EST on johnelliott.co. Additionally, MR PORTER will also be carrying the Vandal beginning June 29.
