Designer: Y/Project

Location: Paris, France

Season: Spring/Summer 2018

Key Pieces: Pretty much every single look here was balls-to-the-wall mental, but the octopus-style multi-armed blazer creations were next level bonkers.

Editor’s Notes: Y/Project is one of the most exciting — and downright crazy — up-and-comers on the Paris schedule. The brand is sorta like a more fabulous version of Vetements, in that it takes cool, stylish men’s and women’s staples, and puts them through a kaleidoscope of insane tailoring, so that they emerge looking like a fashion show on acid.

For SS18, the label took everyday wardrobe staples — track jackets, blazers and whatnot — and gave them the Y/Project treatment. It’s hard to translate online just how crazy some of this stuff is. Garments are warped so that they fit sideways, jeans have their hems disjointed, and pieces distorted in all sorts of insane ways. It’s like Demna Gvasalia’s cuts taken to the absolute extreme. You’ve got to admire whoever is doing the pattern cutting for these guys.
