National Geographic‘s fourth annual Dronestagram contest has concluded and the best of the best are proudly showcased above.

With nearly 8,000 entries — a new record for the contest — the images were submitted from around the world by amateur drone enthusiasts and professional photographers.

Guillaume Jarret, Dronestagram’s managing director expressed; “We were stunned by the great quality of the pictures submitted this year, the level of talent has considerably increased, and the technology has, too. It’s a new photographic language and a new way of seeing the world, a way to see everything just like a bird.”

Jarret also shared that the most frustrating part was that judges wanted to reward more than three photos in each category, and as an unplanned result, a new category titled “Creativity” was added.

The top three winners are particularly highlighted in this gallery, as well as additional finalists in each category — Nature, People, Urban and Creativity.

Also, here are the winners of the 2017 iPhone Photography Awards.
