HBO has unleashed the first trailer for The Deuce, a new series from David Simon, creator of The Wire.

The ’70s period drama stories the rise of the porn industry in New York City, exploring sub-themes such as the HIV epidemic, drugs and the real estate boom. In line with the times, James Franco — starring in a dual role as Vincent Martino and Frankie Martino, twin brothers operating out of Times Square who become fronts for the Mob — can be seen sporting a quite magnificent mustache.

Opposite Franco is Maggie Gyllenhaal in the role of Eileen “Candy” Merrell, a Times Square sex worker with an entrepreneurial spirit who is drawn into the emerging pornography industry. As expected, Simon draws heavily on trusted cast members from The Wire, with Method Man (Cheese), Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (D’Angelo Barksdale), Gbenga Akinnagbe (Chris Partlow) and Chris Bauer (Frank Sobotka) all featuring.

Watch the debut teaser above, and look for the premiere hitting screens on September 10.
