After BuzzFeed broke a disturbing story involving R. Kelly on Monday, a Care2petition has been created, calling for Sony Music Entertainment to drop the singer from the label. So far, the petition has received over 12,000 signatures.
The BuzzFeed report alleges that R. Kelly is keeping a group of women in a “cult” against their will. The petition reads, “We must not let habitual abusers float above justice simply because they are rich and famous. Let’s work together to turn R. Kelly into a symbol for victim’s rights, reminding abusers everywhere that no one is untouchable.”
Since the story broke on Monday, one of R. Kelly’s alleged hostages appeared in a video, denying the allegations and insisting that she has “never been held hostage.” Kelly’s lawyer also denied the allegations in a statement on Monday – “Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”
