Tomorrow, July 29, Dover Street Market will open the doors to its new Singapore location. This in turn accounts for the fourth DSM space, following London, Ginza (Tokyo) and New York, in addition to one franchise operation in China.
“As with all human existence, nothing ever stays still, everything is always changing, and so it is that the first outpost of Dover Street Market in Southeast Asia finds itself in Singapore, and for the first time on only one floor, in an old army barrack with the highest ceiling ever seen in any DSM or CDG store,” says President of Dover Street Market International, Adrian Joffe.
DSM Singapore encompasses a massive 12,325-square-foot space that will find itself open Monday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The key feature within the shop is a giant central hut complex, which is a signature element of all Dover Street Market locations throughout the world. Colorful arches then draw attention to the back of the store, accounting for the first time that color has been used architecturally in any DSM.
A pair of large glass and steel structures house all of the main collection brands of Comme des Garçons, as both the general and common areas, in addition to the designated CDG spaces, have been designed by Rei Kawakubo. The non-CDG labels, including Balenciaga, Gucci, The Row, Sacai, Celine, Thom Browne, Undercover and NikeLab DSM SGP, have then been left to freely design their own areas.
“Having worked with Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe for over 25 years, we are proud to partner with them in bringing Dover Street Market Singapore to fruition,” says Executive Chairman of COMO Group, Christina Ong. “Dover Street Market Singapore was a vital part of our plan for COMO Dempsey, with its trailblazing approach to art, fashion and retail, which aims to bring like-minded people together in a spirit of discovery.”
Again, Dover Street Market Singapore opens its doors tomorrow, July 29.
