Brand: Konus

Season: Fall/Winter 2017

Key Pieces: Exploded houndstooth bomber jackets, dip-dyed denim jackets, cozy winter parkas and patterned topcoats.

Editor’s Notes: Devin Kang is a 19-year-old Korean-American living in California. His label Konus gets its name from a combination of the two countries important to his heritage—Korea and America. Already a hit among K-pop stars, it’s important for Kang to reinforce his American attitude in the clothes. Like most young creatives, he spends a lot of time traveling, and as such has a globally-informed sense of style. That’s why for his Fall 2017 lookbook, he taps Leo Mandella, aka @gullyguyleo and downtown NYC fashion fixture Luka Sabbat to model the gear.

Although South Korea’s fashion scene is riddled with counterfeit clothes and designer brands still working to find their voice on the global fashion stage, Konus is a promising brand with a distinct point-of-view that helps it stand out from the pack. By tapping into Kang’s American heritage and filtering it through a Korean-American perspective, Konus possesses a strong sense of individuality. Street fashion is a scene where plenty of Asian-Americans have found their footing (Bobby Hundreds, Dao-Yi Chow and Alexander Wang among them), so young designer Devin Kang may find himself among those names in the future.
