Icelandic pop icon Björk will be back sooner than expected with new music. On Tuesday, she announced that a new single called “The Gate” will be released digitally September 18 and on single sided 12” vinyl September 22.

Along with “The Gate,” Bjork is set to release her ninth solo album soon, but has not yet unveiled its title or release date. She recently discussed her upcoming work in a new cover story with Dazed.

In the interview, Björk explains that “The Gate” is “essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way. Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”

The currently untitled album was recorded in 2016 and co-produced with Arca, with Texas producer Rabit producing one track on the album. According to Dazed, there is already a music video shot in Los Angeles in the works for “The Gate,” directed by frequent collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang, who most recently worked with the artist on the visuals for “Notget,” which you can revisit below.
