Producer and newfound film director Flying Lotus has scored a new animated short film connected to the forthcoming Blade Runner 2049 sequel. The new film, Blade Runner Black Out 2022, was written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bepop fame. FlyLo excitedly tweeted about his latest creative project early Friday morning.

The forthcoming short also features music by Miguel Atwood Ferguson and Kuedo. According to Anime News Network, the film takes place in between Ridley Scott’s original 1982 film (set in 2019) and the upcoming sequel (set in 2049). This is the third prequel for the upcoming feature film, following 2036: Nexus Dawn and 2048: Nowhere to Run. It will be released October 27 in Japan.

Blade Runner 2049
