The name Steven Spielberg is synonymous with some of the best films ever made. Widely regarded as one of the great directors, Spielberg gets his due in a new HBO documentary that follows his career as a USC film school wannabe to the opening night of the now cult classic, Jaws, to the present day.

With never-before-seen footage of a young Spielberg playing pool with other film legends such as George Lucas, this documentary gives a window into the director’s life and oeuvre and how he came to redefine modern cinema.

Directed and produced by Susan Lacy, the documentary consists of over 30 hours of footage including interviews with Spielberg himself, as well as colleagues such as Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Leonardo DiCaprio, J.J Abrams and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others.

The film will premiere on October 5 at the New York Film Festival before making its official HBO debut on October 7.

In other film news, the first Maze Runner: The Death Cure trailer is like a ’90s action classic.
