Earlier this year Subaru set the record for the fastest lap at Nürburgring. The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special didn’t get to bask in the glory for too long however, as Porsche just shattered Subaru’s time, thanks to the new 911 GT2 RS.
The 911 GT2 RS and its 6:47.3 lap beat out the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special by an impressive 10 seconds, not only making it the fastest Nürburgring lap, but also the best for a street-legal sports vehicle to date.
“At the start of the development process, we set ourselves a lap time target for the GT2 RS of less than 7 minutes and 5 seconds,” said Porsche’s Frank-Steffen Walliser. “The credit for beating this target by 17.7 seconds goes to our development engineers, mechanics and drivers, who demonstrated an exceptionally strong team performance. This result makes it official: The GT2 RS is not only the most powerful, but also the fastest 911 ever built.”
Previously, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante held a record of 6:52.01 for the best lap in a road-legal car.
Porsche isn’t just about cars, though. Take a look at the company’s insane $16 million USD hybrid yacht.
