Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are on the rise in the U.S., and online database Background Checks has compiled a list of the most sexually diseased states in America to give you an insight into which states have the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases.
With the popularity of hookup apps like Tinder and Grindr having led to finding casual sex partners much easier, it has now come with a cost (no pun intended).
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has published new data from 2016 and shows the current ranking per state, as it found that STD rates grew higher compared to 2015, which was already marked as the worst year for STDs in the U.S.
With the two most common STDs consisting of gonorrhea and chlamydia, the data was calculated on the rate of incidents per 100k residents throughout each state.
To the CDC’s surprise, the top ten worst states all experienced a rise in the rate of gonorrhea per 100k residents. Alaska ranks first, followed by Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia to round out the top four.
With the increase in gonorrhea infection becoming a huge concern, many experts attribute it to the rising prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains of the disease.
Additionally, chlamydia, a common sexually transmitted disease that can be easily cured, also rose in most states and remains as the most common STD in the nation.
Now here’s how you can practice a safe sexual health.
