UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor wasn’t fighting at UFC Fight Night 118 last night, but he sure did his best to make sure he was the center of attention. After infuriating a match referee with his loudmouth actions outside of the cage, the star was then caught on camera using homophobic slurs.
McGregor was at the event in Gdansk, Poland to cheer on his teammate and close friend Artem Lobov, who lost his fight to Andre Fili despite Conor’s encouragement and protestations throughout the bout. “What’s got into you, man?” the referee asked McGregor from inside the cage towards the end of the fight. “C’mon. Sit down, please. Be a professional.”
Goddard was reportedly frustrated with McGregor serving as an unofficial cornerman for Lobov, as the rules limit a combatant to three coaches. With McGregor’s presence, Lobov effectively had four assistants and in doing so clearly violated that provision.
After the fight ended, however, McGregor was then caught on camera using homophobic slurs to describe Fili while accompanying his defeated teammate back to his dressing room.
“I thought you were going to sleep him,” McGregor said to Lobov. “All I’m saying, he’s a faggot. I never knew he was a faggot.”
