The Dark Knight is back in a new animated film set in the 19th century and where he's up against the murderous Jack the Ripper. Batman: Gotham by Gaslamp promises to be a bloody R-rated affair and is based on the comic book Gotham by Gaslamp, which was published in 1989.

In this trailer, which you can watch above, Batman is pitted against a masked Jack the Ripper who's raising hell in a noirish Victorian setting. Bruce Greenwood voices the caped crusader, while Sam Liu has produced and directed the film.

There's no release date just yet, but word is that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will release digitally and on Blu-ray/DVD sometime in 2018.

In other news, Louis C.K. has been dropped by HBO, Netflix, his management and publicist.
