The Team Behind Tiosk Discuss the Debut Drop & What Inspired Our “In Good Company” Tee

What does it mean to be European? How does our geography affect who we are and how we think about the world? How do we connect with those around us, whether colleagues, friends, family, brands, different nationalities, ages, genders, races, and everything in between?

These are the questions the Highsnobiety creative team was asking while developing Tiosk, a project that gives brands, designers, and creatives a space to explore different topics by way of the humble T-shirt. It gives us, our favorite labels, and our audience a new, relatable platform for exploring culture, creativity, the world, and society.

To understand the thinking behind Tiosk, and to celebrate Highsnobiety’s own design in the five-tee debut drop, we spoke with those who made the whole project happen.

Carne Bollente Talks Europe & Designing for Highsnobiety’s Tiosk T-Shirt Launch

For the next collaboration in our inaugural Tiosk drop, we’ve tapped Carne Bollente for a pro-Europe graphic T-shirt adorned sex-inspired illustrations, typical of the brand’s trademark “XXX” aesthetic. Viva la Europe.

The Paris-based label with an Italian name meaning “boiled/hot meat” and taken from a 1987 porn film felt like an exciting partner to deliver a T-shirt design that speaks to Europe’s waxing and waning sense of liberty and unity in 2019.

We caught up with Carne Bollente founders Hijiri Endo, Théodore Famery, and Agoston Palinko to discuss the concept behind their Tiosk T-shirt and what Europe means to them.

BEINGHUNTED. Talks Old Europe & the Brand’s Throwback Tiosk T-Shirt Design

For our very first Tiosk T-shirt drop, we’ve tapped Berlin-based brand BEINGHUNTED. to design an exclusive tee. BEINGHUNTED. is one of the modern streetwear universe’s OGs. Starting out as a blog back in 2001, it grew quickly into a full-fledged brand and creative agency that has worked with GORE-TEX, Palace, and Off-White™.

For Tiosk edition one, we asked each brand to explore the idea of Europe. BEINGHUNTED. founder Jörg Haas decided to delve into European history for inspiration, designing a tee inspired by a 1349 bust of Emperor Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire, who ruled in the early 9th century and is often referred to as the “Father of Europe.”

We caught up with Haas to find out more about his Tiosk design and to get his thoughts on Europe and the European Union today.

GEOGRAPHICS Talks Europe, Brexit & Being Part of Our Debut Tiosk T-Shirt Drop

As part of Tiosk’s inaugural drop, we’ve tapped London-based brand GEOGRAPHICS to investigate what it means to be European in 2019. As the name suggests, when GEO founder and chief creative officer Geo Owens launched GEOGRAPHICS in 2018, it was as a more graphics-focused sister brand to his main line.

Owens’ discerning eye for strong visuals, bolstered by his past experience working with Kanye West’s YEEZY and DONDA, makes GEOGRAPHICS an exciting collaborator to help kick off our Tiosk series.

Souvenir Official Talks Europe, “Opinion-Wear” & Designing Exclusively for Highsnobiety

When Berlin-based label Souvenir Official debuted its EUnify collection back in 2017, it wasn’t just those suffering from Brexit-related angst that stepped up to cop the brand’s self-dubbed “opinion-wear.”

With fans including Virgil Abloh, Dev Hynes, and Adwoa Aboah, all of whom have been spied repping the label’s broken European Union flag design, it was clear that Souvenir Official’s political stance struck a chord with people on both sides of the pond. It’s a stance that calls for unity and inclusion at a time when it feels like the world is coming apart at the seams.

Introducing Tiosk. A T-Shirt Shop Built on Shared Ideas

Say hello to Tiosk — combining the words T-shirt and kiosk, the small newspaper stands of Europe selling daily goods — Tiosk is Highsnobiety’s very own T-shirt store, delivering a series of brand new tees made exclusively for us.

The concept was born out of a desire to give the brands we admire a platform to express their thoughts and opinions. The first edition of the series launches on August 7 on our online shop.

The first edition will feature T-shirts from Souvenir Official, GEOGRAPHICS, BEINGHUNTED, Carne Bollente, and Highsnobiety.
