Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (Skyfall, Spectre, and American Beauty) has a new World War 1 epic on the way for Christmas 2019. Here we get our first look at 1917 courtesy of an official trailer from Universal Pictures.

George MacKay and Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman star in 1917 as two young British soldiers tasked with crossing into enemy territory to deliver a message that will likely stop the slaughter of hundreds of solders, one of which is a brother to Chapman's character, Blake. Alongside MacKay and Chapman in the film are Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Teresa Mahoney, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Justin Edwards, Gerran Howell, Anson Boon, and Richard McCabe.

In addition to directing, Sam Mendes penned the screenplay for 1917 with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The movie is produced by Mendes, Pippa Harris, Jayne-Ann Tenggren, Callum McDougall, and Brian Oliver.

1917 lands in theaters stateside December 25, prior to a worldwide release on January 10, 2020.
