Brand: adidas Originals by Raf Simons

Model: RS Stan Smith and RS Adilette “Trompe L’oeil”

Key Features: Each of the sneakers features a trompe l’oeil print that reimagines the RS Stan Smith as one of three adidas archive models. Trompe l’oeil gives a 3D realism to 2D surfaces through the use of perspective, resulting in an optical illusion. The same effect is utilized on a trio of Adilette slides.

Release Date: Initial release on January 17, with the Stan Smith now dropping April 12 and the Adilette on May 17

Price: €280 (likely $280) for the RS Stan Smith, TBC for the RS Adilette.

Buy: adidas and select retailers

Editor’s Notes: Raf Simons unveiled the latest chapter in his long-time partnership with adidas at Paris Fashion Week men’s FW19. Using a trompe l’oeil print, the designer has reimagined the iconic Stan Smith and his RS Adilette as three other adidas archival silhouettes, the 1984 Micropacer, the 1984 LA Trainer, and the 1990 Torsion Conquest Super.

The print gives the illusion that both footwear styles are actually one of the three retro models in their original colorways. The Stan Smiths featurs the designer’s name embossed at the heel, as well as Stan Smith branding on the heel and tongue. A perforated “R” can also be seen underneath the vintage kick’s printed-on design.

adidas has confirmed that the pack of RS Stan Smiths will get a wider release on April 12 with the RS Adilette following on May 17.
