Next week Jordan Brand is scheduled to bring back the OG "Midnight Navy" Air Jordan XVI. The silhouette was originally released back in 2001, as Michael Jordan was in the middle of his second retirement.
Designed by Wilson Smith, and with guidance from the legendary Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan XVI was created with Jordan's post-basketball challenges in mind.
“We were inspired by the fact MJ was retiring for the second time and the thought that he was going from the basketball court to the boardroom,” explains Smith.
Thus, the Air Jordan XVI underwent a unique build process and was the first shoe that the company brought visible Air back into.
The last Air Jordan XVI release took place in 2008, and now 'heads can look forward to the on-hand OG colorway making a comeback. The "Midnight Navy" pair is in turn a nod to Jordan's days spent with the Washington Wizards — deep sigh — as it combines white tumbled leather with navy patent leather.
