As Jeff Bezos and Amazon continue to strive for total world domination, one expert is even predicting that the e-commerce company will acquire Target at some point in 2018, per Business Insider.

"Amazon will acquire Target," Loup Ventures analyst Gene Munster insisted when listing his predictions for the new year. "Amazon believes the future of retail is a mix of mostly online and some offline," Munster went on to add. "Target is the ideal offline partner for Amazon for two reasons, shared demographic and manageable but comprehensive store count."

Such a move would seemingly leave the likes of Walmart worried, catapulting Amazon's stateside store count to more than 2,300, which is nearly half of Walmart's.

Just last year, Amazon showed a concerted effort to become a player in offline retail by purchasing Whole Foods for $13.4 billion USD.
