Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh created something truly innovative when they launched Art Comes First. Not only did they bring a fresh, highly conceptual process to menswear, they also fostered a community of like-minded “traveling tailors” and creatives whose singular narratives inform every project they touch.

For the newest ACF collection, produced under the brand name Avec Ces Frères, Lambert and Maidoh turned to the history-rich city of Kingston, Jamaica for inspiration. The assortment concentrates on reimagined staples, tailored to perfection, of course. Although the garments intentionally invoke the beautiful grit of back streets and balmy nights, the collection also maintains a sense of modernism and artistry.

Lambert and Maidoh also took cues from the non-conformity of childhood heroes such as Haile Selassie, Malcolm X and Jimi Hendrix. Though their personal stances often found them running afoul of the majority, they preserved in their beliefs. The almost militant nature of their defiance is the very thing that defines the spirit of the “Rocker” collection.

This isn’t a cut and dry collection with the mere end goal of selling garments. It’s a story that asks the wearer to question what it means to be an individual each time they engage with the clothing.
