Editor’s Notes: ASICS is dropping two new sneakers, one a forgotten classic from 2004 and the other a modern hybrid that fuses a retro aesthetic with contemporary technology. The ASICS GEL-1090, which was inspired by motorsports and originally released in 2004 — the same year it was worn by two Olympic gold medalists — sees its clean, tech-first design pulled out of the Japanese brand’s archives. With most sportswear brands heavily invested in reviving past classics and giving them a contemporary spin, the GEL-1090 will fit in perfectly alongside sneakers such as the GEL-Kayano 5 OG and the GEL-Kinsei. The GEL-NANDI 360, on the other hand, adds a 360-degree GEL sole to a classic upper, creating a hybrid much in the mould of the GEL-Kayano 5 360 that ASICS recently introduced.
