Even though BADBADNOTGOOD hasn’t dropped an album since 2016’s V, the Toronto quartet has stayed busy by producing for artists like Kali Uchis and maintaining a schedule jam packed with live performances including an unforgettable performance at Virgil Abloh‘s debut show for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week. Today, BADBADNOTGOOD shares a dreamy collaboration with Swedish electro-pop band Little Dragon called “Tried.”

The instrumentals for the tender tune were created in 2017 and then sent to Yukimi Nagano as a way to “start a conversation” with Little Dragon. “We’ve all been big fans of Little Dragon for years, and had a chance to play some shows and hang out with them recently, which eventually led to this collaboration,” BADBADNOTGOOD said in a press release. “They’re a truly captivating and unique group of musicians, and we’re really excited to share this song with them and hope to work together again in the future!”

In a recent interview with NPR, Nagano elaborated on the meaning behind the song. “The lyrics are about helplessness on a personal level, but also in a bigger way—as people chugging along numb feeling helpless in a world that sometimes feels lost of its compassion,” she said. “Despite that feeling of despair, it’s written with an air of hope.”
