Balenciaga Just Dropped Its SS18 Men’s Campaign and It’s Peak Dadcore

Balenciaga has just dropped some new images for its SS18 men’s collection and it’s as ironic as you would expect. Shot by Robbie Augspurger and styled by Lotta Volkova, the boxy cuts, wide-leg denim jeans and pastel parkas all point to the very unfashionable-fashionable dadcore trend that was spurred by Balenciaga’s SS18 show (featuring IRL dads), earlier this year in Paris.

Dadcore was a knock-on effect from the normcore aesthetic that emphasized loose denim, tucked-in T-shirts and roomy blazers – basically what a generic middle-aged man might wear on the weekend. Demna Gvasalia explicitly stated in his show notes from the summer that “young dads in the park with their kids” served as an inspiration for his collection.

Forever dividing opinion, some of the comments on Balenciaga’s Instagram have been less than kind: “Creepy uncle meets lunatic, meets homeless, meets 1980s fashion,” wrote one observer. Check out the rest of the images below.
