The torrent of head-turning new footwear pieces that stepped onto the runway at FW19 shows earlier this year had us reaching for the heat packs afterward. And while our necks ached, our hearts did too as we contemplated the wait that ensued for these items to become shoppable.

Luckily, luxury retailers have now received FW19 footwear deliveries, and we’ve called on buyers at some of our favorite high-fashion destinations to give the lowdown on their highlight purchases for the upcoming season, and explain why they copped.

From Montreal-based SSENSE to London-headquartered Browns, MR PORTER, and Farfetch, these retailers are stocked up with a wide range of sneakers, sandals, and formal options from brands including Prada, Gucci, ASICS, and Suicoke. It’s a buyer’s duty to have their sartorial finger on the pulse when it comes to what’s hot, and you can rest assured, these kicks are on fire.

“A true performance trail sneaker from adidas that strikes a great balance between form and function. Functional Goretex details are complemented by a grey and yellow colorway in this Terrex, which looks great from all angles.”

“After a strong few seasons, ASICS comes up with the goods once again, this time with an update of the classic performance runner in an aquarium and white colorway. Slimmer and less standout than its collabs with the likes of Kiko Kostadinov and GmbH, these give a subtle nod to the tech trend and work well as an everyday sneaker. The Japan branding to the heel is a nice accent, elevating them beyond your standard runner.”

My standout sneaker of the season – probably because it feels like such an outlier – was Loewe’s ’70s style runner. A nod to the bubbling retro trend, the shoe comes in a few colorways but this blue and yellow mix feels the most complimentary to the suede and leather. A luxe touch with a Gola-style shape.

“A typically literal take on current trends from Virgil Abloh is this hybrid hiking sneaker, an original silhouette which he has been sporting and is clearly very proud of. I think this will be a big hit with our customers.”

“The Prada black leather Saffiano sandals are a polished option that can be easily paired with any outfit. As men return to more elegant and tailored dressing, sandals are a great styling option because they offer a modern take on what might otherwise be perceived as a formal look. There are many more options to explore, whether it’s casual styles from brands like Suicoke, or more bold styles from Gucci.”

“My running shoe of choice is without a doubt the Nike Zoom Fly sneaker, which uses the latest technology to provide support and stability. I can happily declare that I have long been a fan of this sneaker, ever since its conception as part of Nike’s “Breaking2″ attempt. So much so that I was once 40 minutes late for a buying appointment in Milan after asking my driver to divert via the NikeLab store en route. The driver kept the meter running and in the end, we were both happy with the outcome of the trip.”
