With the end of 2018 imminent, we reflect on an impressive haul of solid releases over the year. What follows is a comprehensive roundup of some of 2018’s most defining products, as told by Highsnobiety’s very own commerce content curator, Rhianna Matthews.

With Rhianna having trawled through countless online stores over the past 365 days to bring you selections of the latest and best in streetwear, sneakers, fashion, and lifestyle products, she has pulled it out of the bag one last time. We have already rounded up the year’s best sneaker moments and elected the 2018 Highsnobiety Crowns winners, so it’s now time for our e-commerce human encyclopedia to give us a somewhat more encompassing overview of what defined the world of retail in 2018.

So, without further ado, here are the 10 best products to be released in 2018, with each product’s selection getting a short explanation from Rhianna herself. Cheers, 2018, and here’s to an even more stylish 2019.

“Okay, I’m kicking off my selection with the ultimate piece of the summer: Prada’s banana bowling shirt. It’s fair to say this bit of meme-bait had mixed reviews at first, along the lines of ‘Who TF in their right mind is going to pay $1,200 for a shirt covered in fruit and red and blue flames?’ Quite a lot of people, as it turned out, including Pusha-T, Jeff Goldblum, A$AP Rocky, and even a few here at Highsnobiety. Another similarly popular piece was the “Impossible True Love” shirt. Check out our editorial here and cop while it’s on sale!”

“King of collaborations Supreme joined forces with luxury luggage brand RIMOWA this year and everyone went crazy. Supreme’s video teaser for the release stayed true to the label’s irreverent skate roots and really got people’s attention. With prices starting at $1,600 and eventually reselling for more than $5,000, this was both a real moneymaker and a ridiculous flex piece for travelers. As with all things Supreme, the case was a boon to counterfeiters, with some interesting results.”

“Union’s vintage-inspired collaboration with Jordan Brand was a huge hit at the end of the year among sneakerheads, and in my opinion, the best Jordan of the year. The vintage look comes from the slightly off-white leather and mash-up of different Air Jordan 1 colorways that look like they’ve been taken apart and stitched back together using a contrasting yarns. Super-dope.”

Palace

“Palace and adidas came together in the summer for a collection of must-cop tennis whites for Wimbledon. The collaboration was one of the most memorable of the year, bagging the Highsnobiety Crown for Best Collaboration alongside the Palace x Ralph Lauren collection (see below). A particular favorite of mine was the bucket hat. The collab was even worn by Angelique Kerber as she won at SW19.”

“The Nike React Element 87 was by far the sneaker of the year. Moving away from the ongoing chunky sneaker trend, this technical and sleek silhouette became one of the most talked-about and sought-after kicks of 2018. In my opinion, the “Green Mist” colorway from the UNDERCOVER collab was the standout.”

Supreme

“Another great collab this year was the latest Nike x Supreme pair-up. Key items were the dungarees, gold Swoosh earring, and especially the vest. The cozy collection kitted us out for the colder months with its thick, woolen materials and was one of 2018’s steeziest drops. I still cannot believe I didn’t cop.”

Palace

“Of course the Palace x Polo Ralph Lauren collaboration has to be in here. Probably one of the most surprising yet tasteful drops of 2018, this match-up between the playful London skate brand and one of the most inspirational menswear labels of all time was huge, for Palace in particular. It sold out in a matter of hours, with pieces quickly reselling for more than double the retail price. A personal favorite was the skate bear sweater — an instant classic.”

“Yes, this is a bit of self-promotion, but our first ever book was released this year, so of course it has to be here. Following the release of the standard version of the tome, we recently launched our special edition version, complete with upgraded luxurious cover and casing. Starting back in the ’90s and following street style through to the present day, the book covers everything you need to know about what’s important in our universe.”

“Louis Vuitton’s futuristic Archlight Sneaker is a personal favorite of Jaden Smith and really stepped up the chunky sneaker game for celebs and anyone with a spare grand in their pocket. The beauty of the sneaker is the illusion that your foot is fully arched. From the outside, it looks uncomfortable, but wearing it is anything but.”

“Finally, we round off our roundup with the more-than-extra Swarovski crystal-augmented [email protected] 400% by Medicom Toy, which costs north of $6,000. Following in the footsteps of colette’s similarly Swarovski-laden version from 2009, this expertly crafted masterpiece by Japanese company LIGHTS STYLE is available from one of our favorite retailers, Sivasdescalzo. A perfect collector’s piece.”
